Great Books for June 23rd - Emerson's "Self-Reliance"

Our Great Books reading for this month presents a paradox. We are to consider the advice of a man who doesn't think we should care about another's advice. To follow Emerson's recommendation in Self-Reliance, we must ignore it. How can we conform to nonconformity?
Of course, Emerson might protest the very notion that future readers should seek greatness in his work (as a GB discussion is wont to do). "Our reading is mendicant and sycophantic," he warns. And this barb may be aimed at us.
Join us on Thursday, June 23rd, 7:30pm at the Schaefer home to discuss Emerson's Self-Reliance. [Click here to download]

Coram Deo Academy Dallas

CDA Dallas gives much thanks to the family that recently donated $3,500 toward the start up of Coram Deo Academy in the city of Dallas. With previous donations, our total received now equals 10% of that required for the start up. Additionally CDA entered a formalized Letter of Intent with Trinity Episcopal Church to begin a satellite location in the fall of 2006.
