Dr. Fischelson is sick and he cannot cure himself. He is a doctor of philosophy, not medicine. Elderly and ailing, shunned by the Jewish community around him, he has only his reflections on the "Divine Spinoza" and a half finished commentary on his master's work. But, even in his old age, life has a surprise for Dr. Fischelson---one not even dreamed of in his philosophy.

Mrs. Marshall, I found myself surfing through the Coram Deo website, and thought I would say hello along the way. I haven't been by to see everyone in a few months, so I plan on coming by soon. Life at Dallas Baptist has truly been wonderful; I love it here, and am confident of the Lord's sovereignty in moving me. When arrived here I learned several things. First, that the school is blessed with an exceptional philosophy professor who has become quite distinguished in philisophical/ Christian worldview circles. His name is Dr. David Naugle, and because of the great opportunity to study under him I am now double majoring in English and Philosophy. The second notable thing I learned was that the school lacked a student publication.

Thank you for taking time to express your thoughts [about the tuition increase and property purchase]. Although we could not consult everyone effectively, we did consult with many parents and families over the last few years as we approached several opportunities to purchase various properties. I can hardly count how many times I had a dad jump in my car to go look at a possible campus while discussing the location and the potential for cost increases. Most parents also could not be aware of the remarkable amount of time spent each year securing leased facilities and cooperating with the landlords with whom we share those facilities. We are grateful for the new property and will develop it as the Lord provides in order to assure permanence.
Before raising tuition we agonized over how to assure that those who would be placed in a hardship would be provided for through our existing tuition assistance program. We chose to double the percentage devoted to this program and announced this along with the tuition increase. I encourage you to apply with the sincere desire to be able to provide for you and other families that would enjoy continuing in the classical-Christian program of CDA but could not do so with the tuition increase. God is Love and Tolstoy is His Prophet

Of the great modern writers, Tolstoy is near unique in dealing unabashedly with the spiritual life. Following his profound religious conversion, Tolstoy took to using his literary talents in the service of a higher principle. As he came to believe, "Art is a human activity having for its purpose the transmission to others of the highest and best feelings to which men have risen." His short story, What Men Live By, provides an artful example of such efforts. This seeming folk tale offers an extended reflection on John the Evangelist's refrain, "God is love": a message, as Tolstoy seems to imply, fit for men and angels alike.

Building Blocks at the Grammar Level: Narration

Children love to tell what they know. According to ancient writing teachers, telling stories (narration) was one of the first exercises for a child to learn.
Narration is the process that lets you ascertain how much your child remembers and understands. As well, it develops their vocabulary and skill of expression. Ancient educators often had students narrate the stories of history, fable, court cases and scientific discovery. Retelling the stories laid the foundation for subsequent writing exercises.

Defense Bolsters Coram Deo Lions to Six Man Championship

The old adage that defense wins championships was never more evident than on Saturday afternoon when the 14th ranked Lions of Coram Deo Academy posted their first ever state championship, in only their second year of existence playing six-man football, as they beat the 18th ranked Eagles from Life Christian Academy of Houston by a score of 46 - 41 at Maverick Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington. The last time these two teams met, four weeks ago, the Lions and the Eagles combined for 138 offensive points as CDA came away with an 83 - 56 victory.

Dallas Planning Commission Approves CDA Dallas Permit

On Thursday, November 3, the Dallas City Planning Commission unanimously approved a Special Use Permit for Trinity Episcopal Church to host Coram Deo Academy of Dallas. On January 11, 2006, the Dallas City Council will make a final decision regarding this SUP. Yesterday's unanimous decision was a significant step forward in the process of starting the new Dallas school. Thank you for your prayers. Please pray that the Lord would continue to bless this work in the city of Dallas.

Perhaps you've heard this question before? If so, you don't need a famous mathematician to inform you that "the study of mathematics is apt to commence in disappointment." This much you know by experience, either yours or your children's. But you might need A. N. Whitehead to properly answer your child's querry, that perennial question posed by all math students: "Why do I need to know this?" Though a world renowned mathematician, Whitehead wrote his Introduction to Mathematics to encourage disheartened (and perplexed) high school students. His aim was not to teach mathematics, but rather to explain what mathematics is.

We are busy adjusting to SACS standards, ensuring quality, and constantly looking for ways to improve. We heard Ken Myers speak Friday evening at the Covenant Classical School Fall lecture series in Ft. Worth. In case you are not familiar with Mr. Myers and Mars Hill Audio, it's the best way I can think of to stay up to date with pertinent issues while in the car. Structured in interview format, subscribers receive a bi-monthly CD journal containing 90 minutes of interviews from a wide palate of interests. A veritable cornucopia of delight! All our vital communities will be polled, starting October 11th with the Flower Mound upper school faculty and staff. For convenience, all surveys will be web-based and tailored to the concerns of each CDA community. An Evening with William Faulkner

Come join us for a taste of southern literature, as we discuss William Faulkner's curious short story, "A Rose for Miss Emily." Nestled in the post civil war southern town of Jefferson, Miss Emily exists as an enigma of southern gentility in the midst of a rapidly changing world. How do the town folk of Jefferson deal with the eccentric old woman and the mystery that surrounds her? Faulkner begins his story , "When Miss Emily Grierson died, our whole town went to her funeral: the men through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house, which no one save an old man-servant--a combined gardener and cook--had seen in at least ten years..."
Our new cycle of great book discussions, an activity that engages CDA parents, faculty, and students in the art of perceptive reading, focuses this year on selections short in length, though great in depth. They will be drawn from all areas of learning: politics, literature, science, drama, and philosophy. You need no special skill or education to participate, only the desire to read and discuss great written works.

CDA Debate Becomes Member of National Forensic League

To facilitate interscholastic competition in speech and debate, Coram Deo Academy recently applied for and has received Affiliate Status with the National Forensic League. The National Forensic League (NFL) is a non-partisan, not for profit educational honor society founded in 1925 by Bruno E. Jacob at Ripon College in Wisconsin. Its purpose is to encourage and motivate high school students to participate in and become proficient in the forensic arts: debate, public speaking, and interpretation. Since its founding, the NFL has enrolled over 1,150,474 members in all fifty states, U. S. possessions and several foreign countries. Currently over 93,000 high school students and over 3500 high school teachers are active members.

Flower Mound Lower School Receives Certificate of Occupancy

The classrooms will be open to receive students beginning on Wednesday, September 21 for the Monday/Wednesday students; Thursday, September 22 for the Tuesday/Thursday students; and Friday, September 23 for the Friday Program.

Alumni Message from Morocco

My summer was filled with all sorts of adventures. As you know I have studied Arabic at the Academy for four semesters. This summer the Air Force Academy selected me to participate in a month long language immersion program at Al Akawayne University in Ifran, Morocco. For four weeks, I oided using any English from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. At first it was frustrating but after one week your ability to communicate in Arabic increased exponentially.

Do you know how to read?
You may think the question irrelevant, considering you've read this far. Still, does it mean you know how to read? The noted English writer, Virginia Woolf, thinks the question worth considering. A dedicated reader herself, she wonders whether reading is an art that few possess. Are we like her model reader who reads "slowly and unprofessionally, and judging with great sympathy and yet with great severity"-a reader, from an author's perspective, worth writing for? Or are we readers who rely on "furred and gowned" authorities to tell us how to judge good writing, displaying more confidence in what others say about literature than in the works of art themselves?
These are perfect questions to begin our new cycle of great books discussions, an activity that engages CDA parents, faculty, and students in the art of perceptive reading. This year's selections remain short in length, though great in depth. They will be drawn from all areas of learning: politics, literature, science, drama, and philosophy. You need no special skill or education to participate, only the desire to learn how to read. Karen Straus Teaches Violin at CDA Carrollton Campus

Anticipating new campus construction, Coram Deo Academy has retained L&R Henry, Inc. of McKinney, Tex. to assist CDA with strategic planning and fundraising. Louise Henry comes to CDA experienced in development, public relations and marketing. She has served as a speaker, advisor and consultant to education foundations, and was the founding executive director of an education foundation. She is a certified fundraising professional and is a member of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals. Louise is accredited in public relations and has 15 years experience working with schools, in communications, community relations and fund raising.

Town of Flower Mound Grants Coram Deo Certificate of Occupancy on Gym/Auditorium

Today, CDA received the first of its occupancy permits for use of the gymnasium/auditorium at its new Flower Mound campus. Because the use of this building did not change the Town placed no additional requirements on the Academy in order to gain occupancy and has granted it 60 days to install a fire alarm system. The classroom structure is currently under renovations to meet E (educational) occupancy requirements, several of which were unanticipated. These include simple and useful things like installing an exit door directly to the outside from each classroom, upgrading the fire alarm system, changing some door swings, demising a few walls and the like. These renovations are scheduled for completion by Friday September 2. On that day the contractor, Ameritex Construction, intends to have the work inspected to speed toward a Certificate of Occupancy that will enable the CDA Flower Mound Lower School to move in at Labor Day and begin classes on September 12. Please rejoice with us in the first step toward full use of the existing buildings and pray for the contractor that is working quickly to help us start up classes.

Flower Mound Lower School Campus Update

July 22, 2005 Coram Deo Academy closed on the purchase of a handsome fifteen acre campus in Flower Mound with the intent of opening for lower school classes as soon as possible. Although it is still possible classes will begin September 7 this date now seems optimistic due to the lateness of closing and unanticipated permitting requirements. No one has done anything wrong to cause this delay. The process simply has taken longer than we hoped for it to take. The students will still receive the same education; school will just begin a little later than expected and end a little later in May than expected.

A singular event from his boyhood seems to set the entire course of the poet's creative career: My own songs awaked from that hour. As the eternal sea lolls the young Whitman, she whispers him a lullaby. Read his poem to understand why the melodious sea sings: Death, death, death, death, death.

Lower School Begins Classes After Labor Day

We are excited about the acquisition of the beautiful Wichita Trail property. Remodeling of the facilities will begin immediately after the July 22 closing date. Therefore, our new campus will be ready to receive students after the Labor Day holiday.
Please note: Upper School and Carrollton begin classes in August. Only the Lower School in Flower Mound begins school after Labor Day to accommodate moving to the new campus.

Classical Educators Training

Coram Deo Academy will host its second annual Classical Educators Training (CET), August 3-4 at its Carrollton campus. The CET is designed to instruct classroom teachers and parent educators in the classical and Christian philosophy, approach and methods employed in educating students at Coram Deo Academy and similar schools. The training is particularly helpful to those parents new to CDA. Cost for the Classical Educators Training (CET), is $75 which includes a conference notebook and catered luncheons both Wednesday and Thursday. The Coram Deo Academy, which has been using shared facilities in Highland Village, Carrollton, and Bartonville, is going to situate a permanent campus in Flower Mound. The school is purchasing the location of the Church at Wichita Creek, which will share the facility while the Church conducts a capital campaign to secure a more visible location.

Representatives from Coram Deo Academy and The Church at Wichita Creek signed a contract of sale Monday, June 13, for Coram Deo's purchase of the church's 15 acre campus in Flower Mound. Both the church and the school are hopeful to close by the first week of July. After closing the sale, remodeling of the existing building will begin to ready it for occupancy.

Of course, Emerson might protest the very notion that future readers should seek greatness in his work (as a GB discussion is wont to do). "Our reading is mendicant and sycophantic," he warns. And this barb may be aimed at us.

CDA Dallas gives much thanks to the family that recently donated $3,500 toward the start up of Coram Deo Academy in the city of Dallas. With previous donations, our total received now equals 10% of that required for the start up. Additionally CDA entered a formalized Letter of Intent with Trinity Episcopal Church to begin a satellite location in the fall of 2006.

Coram Deo Academy Ceremonies Attended by Over 1,500

Coram Deo Academy conducts annual end of the school year awards assemblies and graduation exercises at each of its schools. With Mrs. Charlotte Campbell presiding and Rodney Marshall giving a brief address, the Flower Mound Lower School presented completion awards to students in K-4 and medals to students in grades five and six with cumulative year-end average in the A range. Five hundred students, mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers attended the Carrollton School Assembly where students received the same awards. Additionally Mr. Joseph Fox, School Director presented each mother of an enrolled student with a long stemmed red rose in appreciation for outstanding support at home. The Flower Mound Upper School presented Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude and Summa Cum Laude to a high percentage of its two hundred thirty students. High School students also competed throughout the school year for recognition as outstanding athletes, artists and distinguished students. Megan Duran and Hannah Spalding and Josh Hicks and Kevin Minuch received Outstanding Athlete awards while Hannah Chupp, poet, Abigail Marshall, visual artist and B. J. Schaefer, classical guitarist each received the prized Artes Elegantes award. Caleb McKinnon, Natalie Price and Bryan Wakefield received the Academy’s highest annual honor in the form of the Distinguished Student Award. Twenty seniors walked the platform as they culminated their high school education. Dr. Ryan Brown, Professor of Social Psychology, University, presented the Commencement Address to the six hundred that gathered while School Director Bill Rector presented diplomas. Valedictorian Lindsey Sobolik and Salutatorian Natalie Price exhorted the assembly. The senior class presented an original painting by Dianne Walker-Gladney, CDA studio artist also well known for gallery presentations of her own works throughout the central south. CDA Plans Awards Ceremonies

Coram Deo Academy will host awards ceremonies for all three schools in May.
The North Dallas School will hold its awards ceremony on Tuesday May 10, 1pm at the Carrollton campus.
The Flower Mound Lower School will hold awards ceremonies for Monday/Wedneday students on May 9 and for Tuesday/Thursday students on May 10. Both ceremonies will take place at the Lower School campus at 10:30am.
The Flower Mound Upper School will hold it awards ceremony and graduation exercises on Saturday May 14, 11am. Ryan P. Brown, Ph.D. will deliver the Commencement Address at the ceremony. Dr. Brown is professor of Social Psychology at the University of Oklahoma and a founder and acting administrator of Veritas Classical Academy in Norman Oklahoma.

Flower Mound campuses of Coram Deo Academy (K-12) achieve candidate status for accreditation

Last Friday, April 22nd, CDA hosted a visit from Dianne Shaw, a representative of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. SACS is the largest accrediting institution in the world and, since 1895, has been helping member schools to improve student learning. Dianne made it clear that her role as a SACS representative was to provide expert support as we pursue our own goals and realize our own vision. She repeatedly stressed that all our efforts at accreditation should be mission-driven; driven, that is, not by SACS' mission, but by CDA's own high ambition to educate students classically, embracing an historic Christian worldview, all done in the presence of God. Herself a former Christian school administrator, Dianne understands our commitment to educating for the glory of God, and she was markedly impressed by the embodiment of the school's vision in the teachers and students she met.

Wichita Creek Congregation Votes to Sell Flower Mound Campus to CDA

Sunday, May 1, The Church at Wichita Creek voted to sell its campus to Coram Deo Academy. One month ago, The Church and The Academy signed a Letter of Intent to Sell/Purchase the campus. The Church then entered a month of prayer and discussion culminating in the positive vote. During the same period, CDA has pursued third party financing, discussed the project with architects, engineers and Town of Flower Mound planning staff, toured the facility with its leadership/management team and reflected on strategies for a phased move to and development of the site. Now it appears probable that the sale will close in about a month. CDA will make necessary improvements in June, move the Lower School this summer and the Upper School at Christmas. For this, we give thanks to God.

First State Champion for CDA

Caleb McKinnon became CDA's first ever state champion on Saturday, April 23 by winning the Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL) Tennis Tournament. The final score was 6-4, 6-3.
The CDA Tennis Team finished the tournament in third place with an outstanding performance. Congratulations to coach Leng Ea and the Tennis Team.

A standing room-only crowd thrilled to a dramatic Alfred Cup Debate Championship showdown in the Coram Deo Auditorium Wednesday afternoon, April 20th. So closely-contested was the event that judges announced the 11th Grade team the winner, only to reverse their decision when a scoring miscalculation was discovered that evening. Thus, the 10th Grade Blue team reigns as champions of the first annual Alfred Cup school debate championship.

CDA Readies for a Readiness Visit

Our school will soon welcome a representative of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for a "first look" at Coram Deo Academy. On April 22nd, school leaders and select faculty will entertain questions from the representative on our commitment to standards; in turn, we will pose questions to the representative about what we must do to become fully accredited. SACS wants to know if we are ready for accreditation. Ready, that is, for the hard work ahead. We want to know everything that accreditation entails. With the successful completion of the Readiness Visit, CDA will become a candidate for accreditation and launch our Guided Self-Study, a top-to-bottom review of our compliance with standards, dedication to continuous improvement, and commitment to quality.

Coram Deo Academy Seeks to Purchase Flower Mound Campus

Festival of Arts

Guests are invited to attend the Flower Mound Area Lower School's Spring Festival of Arts program on Friday, April 29, 2005, from 10:30AM-12:00PM. Please plan to enjoy the students' performances in Music, Spanish, Wind Ensemble, and Drama. Student Art and Science projects will be on display in the auditorium. Plenary Speaker Dr. James Sire, author, editor and lecturer headlines the presenters. Others featured include Miriam Carver, Carver Institute, Gene Edward Veith, World Magazine/Cranach Institute, Ralph Wood, Baylor University and E. Christian Kopff, University of Colorado. When Coram Deo Academy heard David Naugle, Th.D., Ph.D. deliver the Commencement Address at its Graduation Exercises last May all gathered knew they had found an academician of like mind. Dr. Naugle is Professor of Philosophy at Dallas Baptist Universtiy. As Director of Paideia College Society, he has invited Coram Deo constituents to its eighth annual student conference. Keynote Speaker Os Guinness and Guest Artist Billy Crockett headline the conference. Dozens of students will present academic papers on a broad range of interesting topics.

North Dallas Children Reach Out to Southeast Asia Children

Students at the North Dallas campus of Coram Deo Christian Academy raised almost $1,300 for children orphaned by the Tsunami. The fund raising effort was a response to the grief students were expressing as they saw children in Southeast Asia who literally lost everything in the Tsunami. The students were struck by the contrast between the abundance they experienced in the week between Christmas and New Years, and the complete devastation those families endured.

CDA North Dallas Tsunami Funraiser

Through the efforts of the students on our North Dallas campus we were able to raise $1,300 for those orphaned by the tsunami in Southeast Asia. Ian Wallis, the third grade student who initiated the fundraiser, will present a check to a Gospel for Asia representative on March 14.

CDA Wind Ensemble Recital

The Coram Deo Wind Ensemble performed its 2005 Solo and Ensemble Recital, Tuesday March 1st, in the Upper School Auditorium. Attendees were treated to musical works for solo and duet performances, running the gamut from traditional hymns to classics by Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, and Vivaldi, to traditional American melodies. It was clear to hear the musical progress each student had made on his respective instrument over the past year.

A year later she published the revised and expanded lectures as A Room of Ones Own. Here she describes a nameless young woman's quest to answer the question: Why are women poor? And what effect does poverty (and the resulting lack of tradition) have on the mind?

CDA Submits Application with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

This week, Coram Deo Academy made the first formal step in seeking accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). With our application enroute, SACS representatives will soon evaluate our candidacy and schedule a one-day visit to our school. This meeting will allow the administrative staff to pose detailed questions about the accreditation process to the peer review professionals. Faculty and Staff Triumph over Varsity Boys

The Faculty and Staff successfully defended the Coram Deo Cup by defeating the boy's Varsity team by a score of 60-54. Those in attendance witnessed an entertaining and hard fought game. Congratulations to Kevin Minich and Grant Crozier for their outstanding performance as both players and coaches of the boy's team. No paramedics were neccessary to assist the Faculty and Staff.

CDA Student is Principal Violinist

Abigail Brankin is the principal violinist of the second violins in a concert at the beautiful Bass Hall. This is the 40th Anniversary Gala of YO being in Ft. Worth, so it's supposed to be something really special. Canon in D, Pachebal is on the program for Abigail's Strings Orchestra, as well as something by Bach. Also the Youth Orchestra and Jr. Youth Orchestra will play their pieces, so there will be an interesting variety, all played by excellent student musicians (none older than 18 yrs.) from the Ft. High School Planning

Wednesday, February 23rd and Thursday, February 24th at 1:15pm we will be holding a meeting in our Upper School auditorium for students in the 7th through 9th grades and their parents to discuss planning for the high school years at Coram Deo Academy. We will talk about graduation requirements, strategy for success in high school and even a look ahead to college guidance. We are asking interested moms and/or dads to meet their students on campus for a 90 minute look at the most frequently asked questions about our high school. Please mark your calendars and we'll see you here. (7th grade students coming from our Lantana campus will need to accompany their parents in order to be transported to the meeting, but they are welcome and will have plenty of time to get here).

Achievement Testing

During the week of February 21st our 7th, 8th and 9th grade students will be taking achievement tests. We take these exams every year and this special week is built into our annual schedule. Your student should plan on attending on the days they would normally attend their typically scheduled Mon/Wed or Tue/Thur classes and plan on being here by the normal 1st period starting time. Achievement testing will run during the mornings for these students and they return to regular schedules for the afternoon except that in the afternoon on February 23rd and again on the 24th these 7-9th grade students and their parents are invited to a special assembly to discuss planning for high school (see below). There will be no disruption in the 10th -12th grade classes.

Faculty Basketball Dominance

Last year we inaugurated the Coram Deo Cup by defeating the Varsity Boys basketball team. The cup (trophy) has rested comfortably in my office for the last year, but goes back up for grabs Tuesday night! February 15th, 7:30 at The Rock (Carrollton) the CDA Faculty defend the cup against a scrappy boys team. Much is at stake as these boys are impossible if not soundly defeated. This year's game will feature several new twists to a "normal" basketball game. We will have an awards presentation for our Jog-a-thon fundraiser and will also provide a full line of concessions along with a huge bake sale sponsored by the Athletic booster club. Please join us for an evening of fun and fellowship and don't forget to root for the Faculty!

Elective Registration

We believe that arts and athletics are a vital part of your child's complete education. The flexibility of our program allows you to choose the amount and level of involvement in our electives program.
Returning families will receive preference in enrollment into these programs through the end of February after which all enrolled families will have equal access to limited seats.
We will again be offering Summer School and Athletic Camps this year. Our summer academic courses will be offered on both the North Dallas and Upper School campuses. Classes will be in session Monday through Thursday, June 6-30, 1-4pm. Our week long athletic camps will be offered in the month of June as well.
We are pleased to announce our plans to form the CDA String Orchestra. Mrs. Karen Straus, violist with the Allen Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and a teacher of private violin and viola lessons will serve as the classroom teacher as well as the string orchestra director. Students form both CDA campuses are encouraged to register for string instrument classes or the orchestra.

The presentation included the importance of a biblical view of the accumulation and Christian use of wealth for the glory of God and concluded with a retelling of Tolstoy's "How Much Land Does a Man Need."

Re-enrollment favors continuing families

Each year Coram Deo Academy provides a distinct advantage to continuing families and students by allowing re-enrollment for the next academic year before considering applications for new students. Our simplified on-line re-enrollment system only requires a few minutes for you to update information and affirm your desire to continue with CDA. Please take time to read the changes to the Parent-Student Handbook and our simplified Tuition and Fees Schedule as part of the process. For those who re-enroll by January 31 there will be no re-enrollment fee. We will also seek to honor your requested days of attendance as long as seats are available. This will be determined by the order in which applications are received. Those who re-enroll February 1 and after pay a re-enrollment fee of $250 and will be assigned seats on available days at the school's discretion.

Hundreds of Parents Attend CDA PTF Meetings

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings Coram Deo Academy conducted annual Continuing Family Information and Parent Teacher meetings. All feasted on the excellent displays prepared by each instructor, asked questions about programs for the 2005-2006 school year, while many met their child's teacher for the next year. Mrs. Jennifer Seagraves and Mrs. Karen Straus violinist and violist for the Allen Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra performed after prayer to open the North Dallas event and ND students performed a reader's theatre piece The Baker's Dozen followed by a dramatization of Four Yorkshire Men. Michael Sobolik provided classical guitar music in the foyer and Mrs. Elizabeth Bowen and her students opened the Flower Mound area event with a brass fanfare. Mr. Marshall presented evidence of remarkable student achievement and college testing scores and announced plans for Coram Deo to pursue accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. School Directors Joseph Fox, Charlotte Campbell and Bill Rector offered pertinent information about the new school year and other faculty testified to their delight as parents and teachers.

CDA Announces plans for formation of the Coram Deo String Orchestra

Coram Deo Academy will offer string instrument classes to students in grades 4-9 at its Carrollton location beginning in August 2005. The students regularly enrolled in grade 7-9 on M/W and T/TH will study violin as well as great pieces of orchestral music as a part of their Core Program. Those in grades 4-6 may take an elective class in violin on Fridays. In addition, the Academy will seek to develop a String Orchestra for students with a minimum of one year of experience playing violin, viola, and cello or string base. Mrs. Karen Straus, violist with the Allen Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and a teacher of private violin and viola lessons will serve as the classroom teacher as well as the string orchestra director. CDA Announces the Closing of its First Section for 2005-2006

Coram Deo announces the closing of section one of second grade on T/TH at its Bartonville location. There are still openings on M/W in Bartonville and M/W and T/TH at the Carrollton location. Several other sections near closing such that CDA administration recommends that any students seeking a particular section on a particular day do so before their preferred opportunity closes.

Coram Deo Academy to conduct Continuing Family Information Meetings and PTFs

All parents of currently enrolled students are encouraged to attend annual Continuing Family Information Meetings and PTFs. The North Dallas School will meet on Tuesday, January 25 at 6:30 pm in the auditorium at The Rock. The Flower Mound Area Lower and Upper Schools will meet Thursday January 27 at 7 pm in the auditorium at the Lower School. Each campus will include brief performances by music faculty and by students of theatre and music, announcements about school plans for the 2005-2006 school years and time for fellowship with teachers and administrators. You can have any remaining questions about school answered and reenroll prior to the January 31 deadline. See you there.

Coram Deo Faculty Member Enters Doctoral Program in Rhetoric

Texas Women's University has accepted Ms. Deborah Loe into a PhD program in Rhetoric. Ms. Loe has earned a BA in German and Russian from the University of Virginia and an MA in Linguistics from UT Arlington. She served as a linguist with Wycliffe Bible Translators and taught at University of Dallas and in secondary school. Now in her fifth year at Coram Deo Academy she serves as the lead teacher of Latin and Logic. Beginning in the 2005-2006 school year she will also teach Rhetoric. Consistent with the past program she looks forward to teaching students the available means of persuasion through classical Rhetoric with practical application in argument, and elegance in composition and oratory.
